Turn up the texture

While adding chunky, woven textiles made from natural fibres is one popular idea, these items will look more at home when layered over surface-level texture. Gentle washes of colour can be brought to painted surfaces with Resene FX Paint Effects Medium. For timber, the Resene collection of stains and colour washes can be used to enhance the beauty of the wood’s natural grain. On concrete floors and walls, the Resene In The Wash collection can be used to create a European fresco-inspired effect. Resene FX Faux Rust Effect can bring authentic-looking aged patina to a wide range of non-contact surfaces. And to bring physical sandy-style tactile texture to interior walls, ceilings, decor and other surfaces, try Resene Sandtex Mediterranean effect.

Break it up

Resene FX Crackle is a fast and simple way to add an aged or antique look to small items like picture frames and décor objects, it can also be used to create a uniquely textured statement wall that’s sure to standout. Start by using a tinted acrylic basecoat, such as Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, one coat of Resene FX Crackle and a final coat of an acrylic topcoat in a contrasting colour. Resene FX Crackle will shrink, causing the topcoat colour to crack revealing the basecoat colour. Your crackle effect will vary depending on your application method, enabling many different effects to be achieved with the same product simply by varying your application technique and your basecoat and topcoat colour combinations. A thick coat of Resene FX Crackle will result in fewer larger, deeper cracks while a thin coat will give smaller, shallower cracks. For a more complex look that’s truly one-of-a-kind, you can also create a paint effect on your wall by brushing on another Resene colour over areas of your basecoat before applying your Resene FX Crackle layer and topcoat or apply your paint effect over your topcoat.

On a roll

Textured wallpaper is a quick and easy way to bring tactile texture to a range of flat surfaces. From subtly ridged designs to high-relief options, the Resene Wallpaper Collection has something to suit every colour scheme and style. You’ll also find a range of anaglypta-style paintable Resene wallpaper designs which you can paint yourself so that you can be positive the colour will match or coordinate with the rest of your look. While Resene textured wallpapers are always a great option for walls, you can also use them to create the look of a tin-ceiling by applying designs overhead. Mottled or marbled
